Is Pakistan truly at risk of a powerful earthquake next week?
A prediction about a potential strong earthquake in Pakistan next week is currently making rounds on social media.
The forecast was issued by Shahbaz Leghari, head of the private seismic forecasting organization, Earthquake Quick News & Research Center (EQQN).
Leghari released an alert warning of possible seismic activity in multiple countries, including Turkey, Greece, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, in the upcoming week.
Speaking to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APPC) on Thursday, he detailed the predictions, stating that earthquakes measuring 5.3, 4.8, and 5.0 in magnitude are expected to hit Myanmar, Turkey, and Greece, respectively.
He further added, “Pakistan and Afghanistan are likely to experience a 5.4 magnitude earthquake next week, with tremors expected to be felt in both northern and southern regions of Pakistan.”
Leghari claimed that EQQN uses a proprietary prediction system capable of forecasting earthquakes up to 128 hours in advance. “So far, all our previous forecasts have proven accurate,” he said.
As evidence, he referenced the recent earthquake in Pakistan on April 12, 2025, which EQQN had publicly predicted during a press conference in Islamabad on April 7, 2025. “The record of that press briefing is also available,” he noted.
