The Punjab University (PU) 12 teachers have absconded with scholarships worth crores of rupees. In this regard, PU has decided to write a letter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to recover the money from the absconding teachers.
Punjab University will also write a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior to block the identity cards and passports of absconding teachers. Fifty-six teachers of Punjab University received grants worth crores of rupees to pursue PhDs abroad. Twelve out of the fifty-six teachers did not join the university after receiving the scholarship.
Seven teachers of Punjab University escaped with HEC scholarships, while five teachers escaped with university scholarships.
Moreover, according to the law, all teachers were supposed to serve in the university for five years after completing their PhD abroad. For not joining duty, the absconding teachers were supposed to pay crores of rupees to the university as per the agreement.
Names of the absconding teachers and amounts are below:
- Farah Sattar (GIS Center)—Rs7 million
- Syed Mohsin Ali (GIS Center) – Rs14 million
- Kiran Ayesha (Institute of Administrative Sciences) – Rs10 million
- Rabia Ibad (MMG Department) – Rs9 million
- Khawaja Khurram Khurshid (IQTM) – Rs84 million
- Shamaila Ishaq (Hailey College of Commerce) – Rs16.1 million
- Usman Rahim (Center for Coal Technology) – Rs72 million
- Salman Aziz (College of Engineering) – Rs9 million
- Muhammad Nawaz (GIS) – Rs72 million
- Javeria Iqbal (PUCIT) – Rs6 million
- Seemab Ara (Administrative Sciences) – Rs10 million
- Samia Mahmood – Rs11.6 million
