21 April, 2025 11:09

Today marks the 87th death anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan. A special ceremony was held at the Pakistan National Council of Arts in Islamabad to commemorate the occasion.

Allama Iqbal, a visionary poet, is credited with conceptualizing the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent, which later became Pakistan. Through his poetry and philosophical ideas, Iqbal inspired Muslims to pursue knowledge, embrace their potential, and strive for meaningful goals.

In their messages on the anniversary, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of following Iqbal’s teachings in order to build a stronger, sovereign, and developed Pakistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari Tribute

The President paid tribute to Iqbal’s intellectual and political contributions, describing him as not just a poet, but a thinker and reformer who recognized the decline of the Islamic Ummah and used his writings to awaken its spirit.

The President highlighted that Iqbal’s poetry reflects themes such as selfhood, reform, divine love, freedom of thought, and the renaissance of the Ummah, calling Muslims toward knowledge, wisdom, and the true message of religion.

Prime Minister on Iqbal’s Leadership

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, acknowledged Iqbal as a farsighted leader who not only contributed through his poetry but also envisioned a separate state for the Muslims of the subcontinent.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that Iqbal was the first thinker to propose this idea in his historic 1930 address in Allahabad, laying the foundation for the creation of Pakistan. He further shed light on the vision of Iqbal that later took a practical form under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, leading to the establishment of the beloved nation of Pakistan.
