PMD Predicts Rain, Hailstorm in Islamabad, Northern Areas
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory for Islamabad, forecasting partly cloudy conditions with the likelihood of thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorm in nearby areas. The capital is expected to see temperatures climb to a high of 34°C today.
Rain is also on the cards for several northern regions, including upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Some districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could experience heavy downpours and hail, the Met Office added.
Different types of weather patterns are expected in Sindh and Balochistan, where hot and dry conditions would set, along with gusty winds over the entire day.
Morning temperatures in key cities were recorded as follows:
Islamabad, Quetta: 18°C
Lahore, Karachi: 27°C
Peshawar: 20°C
Gilgit: 13°C
Murree: 9°C
Muzaffarabad: 16°C
Across the border, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the forecast suggests cloudy skies with a chance of rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms in areas such as Srinagar, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramula. Jammu is likely to remain partly cloudy, with similar chances of rain and isolated hail.
Earlier this week, sudden torrential rains and hailstorms caused major disruptions in Islamabad and surrounding regions. Large hailstones damaged cars, solar panels, and property across several neighborhoods.
In Khyber District, heavy rainfall hit Landi Kotal and Torkham hard, triggering flash floods. The severe weather led to traffic gridlocks and forced a temporary shutdown of the Pak-Afghan highway due to strong winds and waterlogging.
