NDMA Warns of Unstable Weather Conditions from May 1–7 Across Pakistan
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a public alert, forecasting an extended spell of unstable weather expected to affect various parts of the country from May 1 to May 7.
In a statement released on Friday, the NDMA’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) warned that intense weather activity is likely in multiple regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Upper and Central Punjab, northern Balochistan, and southern Sindh. The forecast includes heavy rains, thunderstorms, windstorms, lightning, and isolated hailstorms.
According to the NEOC, this weather volatility stems from the influx of moist air originating from eastern regions and the Arabian Sea, combined with rising temperatures and elevated humidity levels.
The NDMA cautioned that low-lying areas could face localized flooding or waterlogging, while hilly regions may be at risk of landslides. In light of these hazards, authorities have advised both the public and emergency response departments to exercise caution and implement necessary safety measures.
For real-time updates and emergency instructions, citizens are urged to utilize the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App, especially before traveling during the forecasted period.
The NDMA assured that it is actively monitoring the situation through its NEOC and is in close coordination with provincial and district-level disaster response authorities to ensure prompt interventions and public protection.
In the same advisory, citizens were reminded to stay informed and adhere to official safety guidelines to reduce the risks associated with severe weather.
In a related development, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a heatwave between April 26 and April 30, triggered by a high-pressure system developing in the upper atmosphere.
The heatwave is expected to impact southern regions—including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan—with daytime temperatures projected to rise 5–7°C above normal between April 26 and May 1.
Meanwhile, upper and central parts of the country, including Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, are likely to experience temperatures 4–6°C above average from April 27 to April 30.
Both NDMA and PMD have emphasized public preparedness and vigilance as the country braces for a mix of extreme weather conditions in the coming days.
