Labor Day 2025: Banks will remain close nationwide on May 1

Banks across Pakistan will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, May 1, 2025, for Labor Day. This was officially announced by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Labour Day is a public holiday in Pakistan and many other countries, celebrated to honour the hard work and struggles of workers. Every year, it is marked with rallies, events, and activities to support workers’ rights like fair pay and safe working conditions.

The SBP said that all commercial banks, microfinance banks, and development finance institutions will be shut for public dealing tomorrow. Normal banking services will start again on Friday, May 2.

Important for Bank Customers

Since banks will not be open, customers are advised to finish any important banking work today. However, online banking, mobile apps, and ATMs will keep working during the holiday.

Labor Day, also called International Workers’ Day, reminds everyone about the struggles workers have faced to get better working conditions. In Pakistan, many labour unions and groups hold events and rallies to highlight these issues and push for workers’ rights.
