Pipeline Burst Near Karachi University: Check Water Shortage Zones

30 April, 2025 10:27

An 84-inch water pipeline near the staff colony at the University of Karachi has developed a big leak, causing water problems across the city. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has started emergency repairs, which could take about four days to finish.

Water Supply Suspended in Many Areas

Because of this leak, areas like District East, District Central, Korangi, and District South will experience serious water shortages. KWSC officials said they are working nonstop, but water supply will only return to normal after the repair work is done.

A KWSC spokesperson said, “Our teams are working around the clock. We ask everyone to be patient until the repairs are completed.”

What Caused the Leak?

This pipeline is an important part of Karachi’s water system. It has been damaged before, mainly because of the BRT Red Line construction on University Road. These issues have made water problems even worse for Karachi’s residents.

KWSC’s Advice for Citizens

KWSC has requested people living in the affected areas to store water and use it carefully until the repair work is finished. They also said that water tankers might be provided in high-need areas.

Areas Most Affected

  • District East: Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and nearby areas

  • District Central: North Karachi, Nazimabad, Federal B Area

  • Korangi: Landhi, Korangi Industrial Area

  • District South: Saddar, Clifton, and nearby neighborhoods

When Will Water Be Back?

If everything goes as planned, water supply will be restored by May 4, 2025. KWSC promised to keep residents updated through official announcements.
