Sindh bans all plastic bags from this date
The Sindh government has announced a full ban on all kinds of plastic shopping bags starting June 15 to help reduce environmental pollution.
The Department of Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development has issued a notification stating that non-degradable, oxo-degradable, black, and recycled plastic bags will also be banned. This is the first complete ban on plastic bags in Sindh, following a partial ban in 2019.
The ban has been introduced through changes in the Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products Rules 2014.
Environment Secretary Agha Shahnawaz explained that only eco-friendly bags will be allowed and that the new policy will be strictly enforced. He stressed that plastic bags are a major cause of environmental damage, and the government will now take firm action without any tolerance for violations.
The department also urged the public to support the decision, calling environmental protection a shared national duty.
