Why did Pakistan avoid using Modern Air Defence Systems to destroy Indian drones?
Pakistani forces have successfully shot down a total of 77 drones across multiple cities as tensions with India continue to rise. The military confirmed that 29 Indian drones were destroyed by the evening of May 8, followed by an additional 48 drones neutralized by the next day.
Earlier today, four drones were intercepted and brought down near Okara Cantonment, landing in surrounding fields. One drone each was also shot down in Vehari and Pakpattan, according to official sources.
A statement from the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) assured the public that all enemy drones were tracked and monitored through radar systems. “Our air defence is fully capable of detecting even small drones,” said the DG ISPR. He explained that a full operational protocol is followed to eliminate threats while ensuring civilian safety and uninterrupted commercial air traffic.
Why Pakistan Did Not Use Its Modern Air Defence System
In response to public curiosity about why Pakistan did not deploy its advanced Air Defence System against Indian drones, officials clarified the strategic reasoning.
According to military sources, India was deliberately sending drones to locate Pakistan’s high-value air defence assets, including radar installations. The goal was to identify and neutralize them, clearing the path for future manned aircraft missions after losing at least five fighter jets to Pakistan’s retaliation earlier.
However, Pakistan detected the ploy and did not engage with its most advanced systems, preserving them from exposure. Instead, forces relied on “soft kill” techniques such as jamming and spoofing to successfully down the drones without compromising critical defence locations.
Security experts have praised the move as a clever and restrained response, focusing on damage prevention and national security while exposing India’s tactics.
The situation remains tense, with both countries on high alert and the international community closely watching further developments.
