Pakistan, India Exchange Prisoners at Wagah-Attari Border Post
LAHORE: Pakistan and India exchanged one prisoner each on Wednesday at the Wagah-Attari border crossing, according to security sources. The exchange comes in the wake of a ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
Pakistani authorities handed over Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel Pranam Kumar Shah to Indian officials. In return, Mohammadullah of the Punjab Rangers was received by Pakistani officials.
Security sources confirmed that the exchange of prisoners took place between India and Pakistan at the Wagah-Attari post.
The Indian army stated that the BSF soldier was captured a day after an April attack in Indian-administered territory that left 26 people dead. In a post on platform X, the Indian army said, “Border Security Force soldier Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistan Rangers since 23 April 2025, was handed over to India.”
The BSF noted that the handover was “conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols.”
It is also noted that following the ceasefire agreement, the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries held talks on May 12 and agreed to uphold the ceasefire.
