Bunyan Al-Marsus Proved Kashmir Issue as Key to Lasting Peace
The Operation Bunyan Al-Marsus has once again brought global attention to the unresolved Kashmir issue, underlining its critical importance in achieving sustainable peace in the region.
In response to Indian aggression, the Pakistani Armed Forces delivered a strong and effective counterattack in self-defense, ultimately compelling India to agree to a ceasefire.
In an exclusive and revealing interview with RT, former Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army, Lieutenant General (Retired) Muhammad Saeed, shed light on the ground realities and strategic decisions taken during the conflict.
“The ceasefire was a courageous decision,” said Lt Gen (R) Saeed, emphasizing the complexities faced by both sides. He noted that political leaderships in Islamabad and New Delhi accepted the ceasefire under international pressure. “It was not an easy decision,” he added.
Lt Gen (R) Saeed described the confrontation as “a brief but widespread military conflict,” with missile and artillery exchanges spanning a 3,000-kilometer area. He confirmed that firing took place along the Line of Control (LoC), the international border, and in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Despite the intensity of hostilities, both militaries enforced the ceasefire within 24 to 36 hours, demonstrating remarkable discipline and coordination, he said.
However, Lt Gen (R) Saeed warned that such ceasefires have occurred multiple times over the past 78 years, but none have led to lasting peace due to the unresolved status of Kashmir. He stressed that without addressing the Kashmir issue, long-term stability in the region remains elusive.
The Operation Bunyan Al-Marsus, while short-lived, has once again underscored the need for a comprehensive resolution to the Kashmir dispute as a prerequisite for enduring peace between Pakistan and India.
