Islamabad: A Youm-e-Tashakur ceremony has begun at the Pakistan Monument amid Marka-e-Haq celebrations, GTV News reported on Friday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is the chief guest of the ceremony, while the three service chiefs, including thean of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, are also participating in the ceremony.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, among other ministers, are also participating in the ceremony.
Prime Minister Speech
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “I salute the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country. Mothers, sisters and soldiers were martyred in the Indian attack. We shot down five Indian planes, but yesterday at Kamra Air Base, the Air Chief told me that not five but six planes were shot down.”
He said that we shot down their Rafales and drones, but the enemy continued to threaten us. The Army Chief told me on the phone on the night of May 9 that India had launched missiles at our airport. The Prime Minister should allow us to give the enemy such a slap in the face that he will remember for the rest of life.
The Prime Minister said that the world saw that we attacked Pathankot, Udhampur and other places so that the enemy could not find a place to hide. After the counterattack, General Asim Munir received a second call that we had given a befitting reply to the enemy and that an offer of ceasefire had come from there, so I said to accept it.
He said that today is Thanksgiving Day, this opportunity comes after centuries, the entire nation stands behind the armed forces, on May 10, millions of Pakistanis prayed for the victory of the army, we sent a message to the world that we are ready to defend ourselves, the enemy who considered himself the policeman of Asia shot down six of his planes, including Rafale and MiG planes, while many drones were also shot down.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister thanked friendly countries by name, adding that he was grateful to US President Donald Trump for taking courageous steps for peace in Asia.
