Iranian president welcomes Pakistan’s ceasefire efforts with India

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian hold a telephone conversation Saturday. 

The prime minister expresses best wishes to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

The premier said that expressing gratitude for Iran’s sincere efforts to reduce tensions in South Asia.

In this regard, Shehbaz Sharif condemns India’s attacks against Pakistan.

The prime minister said that brave armed forces gave a responsible and decisive response to the enemy.

He added that Pakistan wants peace and agreed to a ceasefire with India in the same spirit.

The prime minister reiterates a firm resolve to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs.

However, the PM expresses concern over attempts to unilaterally violate the Indus Waters Treaty; water is a lifeline for 240 million people.

The Jammu and Kashmir dispute is the main cause of instability in South Asia.

In return, the Iranian president expresses condolences over the loss of precious lives during recent tensions.

Masoud Pezeshkian praises Pakistan’s efforts for peace and welcomes the ceasefire.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and agreed to increase cooperation in trade, regional ties, security, and people-to-people ties.

Moreover, the prime minister accepts the Iranian president’s invitation for an official visit to Tehran.
