Punjab Government Launches Special Tourism Police to Protect Visitors

17 May, 2025 17:35

In a new move to promote tourism, the Punjab government has announced the launch of a dedicated Tourism Police force. This step has been taken to ensure the safety of both local and international tourists visiting the province.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed concerned departments to begin work on this project immediately. The aim is to create a secure and tourist-friendly environment across Punjab.

Cities Selected for First Phase

The first phase of this plan will begin in Lahore, the capital of Punjab. Other key cities that will see the deployment of tourism police include Murree, Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, and Kartarpur. These places are some of the most visited tourist destinations in the province.

Reporting Structure

The tourism police will work under the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police. However, daily operations will be managed by Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) of the selected areas. This will help in better coordination and fast response to any issues.

Modern Equipment and Facilities

According to media reports, the new force will be given advanced vehicles, modern communication tools, and other security gadgets. These steps will help the police respond quickly in case of emergencies and improve overall security in tourist zones.

Main Objectives

The purpose of setting up this force is not only to protect tourists but also to boost tourism in the region. The Tourism Police will only focus on tourist-related matters and will not take part in regular police work. This independence is expected to make their role more effective.

The Punjab government hopes that this new force will create a welcoming and safe environment for all tourists visiting the province.
