Lahore Traffic New Laws 2025: All You Need to Know!

20 May, 2025 17:12

In a major push to reform road safety, the Lahore Traffic Police have introduced sweeping changes under the new 2025 traffic laws. The latest regulations mark a significant departure from previous practices, aiming to control reckless driving and restore order to the city’s busy streets.

The updated rules replace traditional fines (challans) for serious offenses with immediate arrests and even FIRs. Drivers caught violating high-risk rules—like driving in the wrong direction, running red lights, or operating a vehicle without a valid license—could now face legal consequences on the spot.

“No More Challans – Arrests & FIRs Instead”, state officials. Offenses like underage driving, dangerous maneuvers, and repeat violations are now being treated more seriously than ever before.

In addition, a new tier-based penalty system has been implemented, hitting luxury vehicle owners the hardest.

“Luxury vehicles: 10x of standard fine
Public transport: 5x of standard fine
Middle-class/private cars: 2x of standard fine”, the new rulebook explains. Repeat offenders will also see fines increased by 5% with each violation.

Lahore’s e-challan system has received a significant upgrade through enhanced detection technologies powered by ANPR cameras. Offenses such as lane violations and improper stop-line crossings are now being tracked digitally and delivered to offenders through an online portal.

Authorities have also tightened license requirements. “Driving without a valid license? Under the new Lahore traffic rules, not only can your vehicle be impounded, but it won’t be released unless you show a proper learner or full license. No exceptions.”

Crackdown on underage driving has intensified, with over 2,100 cases recorded in early 2025—a 17% rise compared to the previous year. Parents enabling their children to drive underage now face legal accountability.

To facilitate public awareness and better driving practices, Punjab Police are promoting 127 certified driving schools across the province. In 2025 alone, more than 171,000 individuals—including many women and transgender drivers—have received formal training.

These new measures reflect a bold step toward improved safety and civic responsibility on Lahore’s roads. As authorities continue to educate and enforce the laws, all residents—regardless of vehicle type or social status—are urged to follow the updated regulations.

“It’s not just about avoiding fines or jail time – it’s about creating a better driving culture for everyone in Lahore.”
