Pakistani Climbers Wajidullah Nagri, Dr. Shehla Sheikh Achieve Major Milestones on Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga

Two mountaineers from Pakistan, Wajidullah Nagri and Dr. Shehla Sheikh, have made us all proud by reaching the peaks of two of the world’s highest tops β€”Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga.

Wajidullah Nagri, who comes from Gilgit-Baltistan’s Nagar district, climbed Mount Everest successfully, which is the highest mountain on the planet. He was accompanied by famed Sherpa Ang Tashi during the expedition. This accomplishment stands as a testament to Wajidullah’s exceptional skill, resilience, and commitment to mountaineering.

According to Karrar Haidri, Secretary of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Wajidullah’s feat was a mighty signature of courage and perseverance. He stressed that it is not only a national achievement; it is also something inspiring to climbers worldwide.

Wajidullah Nagri was part of the Pioneer Adventure expedition and has previously conquered several of the world’s most challenging peaks, including K2, Broad Peak, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum-I, and Gasherbrum-II.

Dr. Shehla Sheikh, a U.S.-based Pakistani mountaineer, also reached the summit of Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world at 8,586 meters. Known for its treacherous conditions and technical difficulty, Kanchenjunga is regarded as one of the most dangerous peaks above 8,000 meters.

Dr. Shehla confirmed her safe ascent and stated that she is the first Pakistani woman to summit Kanchenjunga. Her passion for adventure began in 2022 with a trek to the K2 base camp, followed by climbs of Spantik and other mountains. As both a physician and mountaineer, she has become a role model for Pakistani women pursuing high-altitude climbing.

Karrar Haidri noted that Dr. Shehla’s success highlights the increasing global presence of Pakistani climbers and the growing role of women in the field of mountaineering.
