Punjab Government Announces New 2025 Rules for Birth Registration
In a major step toward improving civil documentation, the Punjab government has introduced the Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025 to simplify and speed up the process of registering births and deaths across the province.
Notified by the Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department, the initiative was approved by the secretaries of law and local government. The move is part of a broader effort to digitize key citizen services and make them more efficient.
“This new initiative, notified by the Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department, comes after official approval from the secretaries of law and local government. It reflects a broader push by the government to digitize and streamline essential services for citizens.”
The most significant change is that “all birth and death registrations within seven years of the event will now be processed without any fee, and applicants will be issued computerised certificates at no cost.”
Under these new rules, timely documentation has been made easier for families. “Free Registration for Up to 7 Years”, “Digital Certificates Issued”, and “One-Year Certificate Issuance – No Fee” are now in place, reducing hassle and eliminating financial burdens for many.
However, the government has also introduced a nominal penalty for extremely delayed registrations. “While timely birth registration in Punjab, Pakistan is now easier than ever, the rules also clarify that a Rs200 fee will be charged for registrations done after the seven-year window.”
This policy aims to encourage timely registration while still allowing a chance to correct unregistered births from the past. By removing complex procedures and financial hurdles—especially for those in remote areas—the new system is expected to strengthen identity documentation across Punjab.
“With birth registration in Punjab, Pakistan now being more accessible and cost-free within the first seven years, this is a golden opportunity to ensure everyone’s documentation is up to date.”
