PM Shehbaz says Pakistan disproved India in recent war
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that Pakistan disproved the idea of India’s military superiority during the recent war between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
While speaking at an event in Muzaffarabad, where he distributed compensation cheques to the families of those martyred in the “Marka-e-Haq” referring to the recent Pakistan-India conflict – the prime minister emphasized how serious the war had become. He warned, “The consequences of the war could have been dire.”
He referred to the Pahalgam incident as “regrettable” and said India had made baseless accusations against Pakistan. Shehbaz Sharif explained that the international community was convinced that India’s claims were false and part of a larger conspiracy.
Pakistan had even suggested an impartial international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, but India refused and launched an attack instead.
In response, Shehbaz said that Pakistan’s military gave a strong and calculated reply, shooting down six Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets, while avoiding harm to civilians.
“A measured response was given to India while exercising the right to self-defence,” he said, adding that India’s government, led by Narendra Modi, would now think “a hundred times” before attacking Pakistan again.
He mentioned Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, a major military retaliation by Pakistan targeting Indian military bases across various locations. The operation came after Indian strikes on the night of May 6–7, which India said targeted “terrorist camps” but were seen as aggression by Pakistan.
In total, Pakistan shot down six jets, including three Rafales, and dozens of drones. The conflict lasted about 86 hours and ended on May 10, following a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.
The confrontation was triggered by a deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that killed 26 tourists. India blamed Pakistan, though it provided no evidence for the claim.
