President, PM award COAS Asim Munir with Field Marshal Baton
A special ceremony took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr to present the Baton of Field Marshal to the Chief of Army Staff, Syed Asim Munir.
President Asif Ali Zardari officially awarded the baton to General Asim Munir during the event.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, members of the federal cabinet, and the chiefs of all three armed services.
Also present were the members of Parliament, foreign diplomats, senior civil and military officials, along with the chief ministers and governors of all four provinces. The governor and chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan were also there to observe the ceremony.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing the ceremony for awarding badges, said that today is a historic and proud day. “We acknowledge the services of our heroes,” he stated.
He added that our military leadership achieved an unparalleled and historic victory against the enemy. “With a powerful and effective response, the enemy was forced to surrender.”
He further said that the Pakistan Armed Forces crushed the enemy’s arrogance. “During the tense situation, Field Marshal Asim Munir’s spirit and determination were exemplary.”
The Prime Minister stated that they pay tribute to the services of the Field Marshal for the beloved homeland. “The Field Marshal’s role is crucial for the country’s sovereignty and security,” he said.
On the other hand, President Asif Ali Zardari, while addressing the ceremony, said that the purpose of today’s event is to pay tribute to the brave sons of the nation.
The President said that the entire nation is proud of its courageous armed forces. “It is a proud moment for Syed Asim Munir to be honored with the title of Field Marshal. I am very pleased to have approved the conferment of this title. During the battle for truth, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir led from the front.”
The President further stated that the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with its brave armed forces against the enemy. “Our strong response proved our capabilities to the world.”
“Pakistan is an advocate of peace, but this desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness. We know how to defend every inch of our beloved homeland. May Allah keep the protectors of our dear country in His care,” he concluded.
