Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Pakistan Crypto Council CEO to Discuss Digital Economy Future

24 May, 2025 14:11

RAWALPINDI – In a landmark meeting at General Headquarters (GHQ), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with Bilal Bin Saqib, CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC), to discuss strategies for boosting Pakistan’s digital economy through blockchain, cryptocurrency, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The high-level discussion highlighted the transformative role of emerging technologies in empowering Pakistan’s youth and enhancing national economic resilience. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for tech innovation and global competitiveness, with a shared vision of placing Pakistan at the forefront of the digital revolution.

“The Pakistan Crypto Council exists because our youth demand a seat at the global tech table,” said Bilal Bin Saqib. “We are building for a generation that sees digital finance, decentralization, and AI as opportunities to lead, innovate, and uplift the nation.”

During the meeting, Bilal briefed the COAS on the Council’s recent milestones:

  • A delegation visit from World Liberty Financial (WLF) and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.

  • Ongoing consultations with regulatory bodies.

  • Global partnerships aimed at training a digitally skilled, future-ready generation in Pakistan.

Earlier this year, World Liberty Financial (WLF) — a DeFi platform backed by U.S. President Donald Trump — signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with PCC. The goal: to accelerate blockchain adoption, promote stablecoins, and expand DeFi integration across Pakistan.

The WLF delegation included high-profile U.S. figures:

  • Zachary Folkman

  • Zachary Witkoff, son of Steve Witkoff, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East

  • Chase Herro

The group met with top Pakistani leadership, including the Prime Minister, COAS, Deputy Prime Minister, and Ministers of Information and Defence, marking a historic effort to position Pakistan as a digital finance powerhouse.

According to the Ministry of Finance, President Donald Trump and his sons — Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Barron Trump — are key backers of WLF. Trump has publicly endorsed the initiative on social media, calling the platform’s launch a “historic moment” in a post on X (formerly Twitter) in September 2024.
