The Punjab Home Department has prepared a draft of the Punjab Control of Gangsters Act 2025.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the act clarifies the legal identity of gangsters and thugs.
Under the act, the District Intelligence Committee will be able to declare any person a gangster.
A report or written complaint from the police, administration, or sensitive agencies will be acted upon. People involved in drug trafficking, gambling, extortion, cybercrime or harassment, fake government officials, displaying weapons on social media, or using fake documents can be declared gangsters.
The bank accounts of gangsters and miscreants can be frozen, and their weapons licenses can be revoked. In addition to being placed on the no-fly list, their identity cards and passports can be blocked.
The first offense is punishable by 3 to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to Rs. 1.5 million, while a repeat offense can result in up to 7 years in prison and a fine of up to Rs. 2 million.
