Mercury set to hit 40°C today in Karachi
Karachi Weather Today: Windy Heatwave, Not a Cloud to Hide Under
As the country grapples with an intense heatwave, the port city is set to experience a sharp rise in temperatures starting today, with the mercury expected to soar to 40°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Coastal regions may feel even hotter, with the “feels-like” temperature reaching up to 45°C due to elevated humidity levels and a stagnant sea breeze. Daytime conditions are expected to bring intense sunshine and minimal wind, adding to residents’ discomfort.
The Met Office reports that westerly winds are currently blowing at 17 kilometres per hour, with humidity at a high 74%, further exacerbating the oppressive heat. The weather is expected to stay extremely hot and humid over the next 24 hours.
Meteorological analyst Owais Hyder noted that a low-pressure system is present over the Indian state of Maharashtra. However, it is unlikely to bring any rainfall to Sindh, including Karachi. Consequently, no rain is predicted for the city throughout the week.
Temperatures are expected to remain elevated, ranging between 40°C and 41°C from Wednesday through Friday. Authorities urge citizens to take precautionary measures to prevent heat-related illnesses and to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
Health experts have emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and adopting safety practices to guard against the extreme heat.
