Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, has given hope to consumers by hinting at the possible restoration of domestic gas connections. The announcement comes after years of suspension due to the ongoing gas crisis in the country.
Speaking to the media, the minister said, “he would request Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to approve new domestic gas connections.” However, he noted that due to the unavailability of local gas, “new domestic connections may have to rely on imported gas.”
He added that “power plants are not purchasing LNG, and due to this, 400 MMCFD of local gas supply has to be withheld.”
In another significant development, the petroleum minister announced a key step towards fuel transparency. “The government has planned to digitize fuel nozzles at petrol stations to ensure accurate measurement of fuel sold to the customers.” This move aims to curb fuel theft and ensure consumers receive fair quantity at petrol pumps.
On the trade front, Malik mentioned efforts to enhance imports from the United States, saying, “a committee has been formed to increase imports from the United States.”
Regarding gas connection fees, the SNGPL’s official website states that “the charges for gas connection for plot measuring up to 10 marlas stand at Rs6,000,” while for plots “measuring above 10 marlas, the charges stand at Rs7,500.”
These announcements mark important steps toward addressing energy challenges and promoting transparency in fuel distribution.
