Pakistan, Afghanistan to restore full ambassador-level ties

In a sign of improving relations between Kabul and Islamabad, the two neighboring countries have decided to upgrade embassies in each other’s capitals to ambassadorial level. 

The decision came a few days after top diplomats from the two countries met in Beijing.

The Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Afghanistan welcomes Pakistan’s decision to elevate its diplomatic mission to the level of ambassador.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the status of the Afghan chargé d’affaires in Islamabad will be elevated to the rank of ambassador.

The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on the social media platform X that increasing diplomatic representation between Pakistan and Afghanistan will pave the way for promoting bilateral cooperation in various fields.

On Friday, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that the Pakistani charge d’affaires in Kabul would be elevated to ambassador, saying that relations have been moving in a positive direction since his visit to Afghanistan in April.
