Karachi: The Superintendent of Malir Jail has prepared a preliminary report on the prisoner escape incident. The Superintendent of Prisons’ report states that thousands of prisoners broke out due to fear of an earthquake and at around 1:30 am, the prisoners broke the main gate. During this time, 216 prisoners escaped, of whom 78 have been captured, while the search for 138 prisoners is ongoing.
According to the report, the prisoners vandalized the prison hospital, interview booth, e-court and various departments.
The report states that 12 prisoners and various staff members were injured in the shooting incidents, while a prisoner named Tahir Khan was also killed in the shooting.
In addition, Superintendent Malir Jail Arshad Shah said in a conversation with the media that there was anxiety among the prisoners due to the earthquakes last night. The prisoners were afraid that the roof would collapse. After 11 pm, a severe earthquake struck. The prisoners in the barracks were terrified. In a panic, 150 people forced the door and broke the lock.

Some prisoners ran towards the colony, and firing was also fired in that direction. The number of prisoners who created the stampede was three and a half to four thousand.
He said that it was not negligence, but the prisoners were afraid, there was no negligence on the part of any official, I was among them, in this incident one prisoner was killed and 2 FC personnel were injured, our staff members were injured, however no civilians were injured.
On the other hand, IG Prisons Sindh Qazi Nazir said in a conversation with the media that an earthquake had struck the city, which damaged the walls of the barracks. During this time, prisoners attacked Malir Jail and the door latch broke. The prisoners came out of the jail and broke the remaining locks.
Every effort was made to control the crowd.The IG Jail said that the addresses of the prisoners are available, their families should send them back, if the prisoners do not return voluntarily, strict action will be taken, such a situation has never been faced in the past, it is hoped that more than half of the prisoners will be caught by tonight.
