The Punjab government has decided to operate electric buses throughout the province instead of in specific districts.
Districts deprived of public transport for decades have been heard of, now Punjab on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a uniform modern transport system will be provided in all cities, the Transport Department has been tasked with purchasing 1,100 electric buses instead of 500.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan says that whether it is Bahawalnagar, Attock or Lahore, all are the same for the Chief Minister.
The Transport Department has been given time until December this year to make electric buses operational.
Earlier, Sindh Transport and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced the launch of double-decker buses in Karachi starting next month, as part of the provincial government’s efforts to modernize public transport in the city.
Speaking to the media, the minister said the government is working hard to improve travel options for commuters across the city. This announcement follows the successful rollout of the Peoples Bus Service and the Pink Bus Service, both of which have been welcomed by the public.
In a significant move for women’s safety and mobility, Sharjeel Memon also revealed that a Pink Taxi service exclusively for women will be introduced soon. This new initiative aims to offer secure and reliable transport options for female passengers.
