The government’s economic team has approved a proposal to raise salaries of government employees by only six percent in the 2025-26 budget, which is set to be presented in the National Assembly today.
According to media reports, the economic team met under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and approved the six percent salary increase for government employees.
Sources reveal that the final approval of the budget proposals will come during the federal cabinet meeting, scheduled to take place today at the Parliament House, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
During this meeting, the budget documents and the finance bill will be reviewed and approved. The cabinet will also finalize the decision on the salary and pension increases for government staff.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is expected to brief the cabinet on the key highlights of the budget. Following the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister will attend the National Assembly session where the finance minister will officially present the budget.
