Sugar rates go above Rs200 per kg after Budget 2025-26
Sugar rate in Pakistan today: New average and top prices revealed
Sugar prices in Pakistan have gone up sharply, with retail rates now crossing Rs200 per kilogram in some areas. The price of a 50-kg sack of sugar has reached Rs8,800, making it harder for people to manage their daily expenses.
In Peshawar, wholesale sugar is selling for around Rs175 per kg, while in retail shops, the price ranges from Rs180 to Rs200 per kg. This sudden rise in sugar rates has added more pressure on already struggling households.
Experts say the increase is due to a few reasons. First, people use more sugar during the hot summer months. Second, changes linked to the new budget have affected prices. Also, some traders are selling their old stock at the new higher rates, taking advantage of the market trend.
Over the past few weeks, sugar prices have gone up by as much as Rs60 per kilogram. Many consumers are upset and worried about the rising prices of basic goods.
They are urging the government to take action to control the prices and prevent further inflation, especially with demand increasing.
