12 June, 2025 13:32

On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the urgent need to eradicate child labor, calling it a global challenge that demands coordinated efforts from federal and provincial governments as well as civil society.

President Zardari emphasized that it is a collective responsibility to shield children from exploitation and ensure they grow up in a dignified and nurturing environment. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to ending child labor and highlighted that effective systems and service units have been established for the rehabilitation of child labor victims. He also noted the creation of the National Commission for Child Rights and the Child Protection Institute as significant steps in this regard.

The President on World Day Against Child Labour called on parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s education over short-term economic gains. He also urged the media to play a role in raising awareness about child labor. Additionally, he appealed to the international community to focus on the plight of children in Gaza, pointing out that ongoing violence in Palestine and Kashmir is driving children into orphanhood, hunger, and labor.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with the global efforts to eliminate child labor. He emphasized that every child deserves a safe and prosperous environment and stressed the need for collective action to ensure access to education.

PM Sharif stated that Pakistan has taken both legislative and practical measures to tackle child labor. He highlighted the Daanish School System as a key initiative in expanding educational opportunities and mentioned the implementation of nutrition programs in government schools to address malnutrition among children.
