Russia has condemned Israel’s reported military strikes on Iranian facilities, warning that the sudden escalation poses a serious threat to regional and global stability.
The Kremlin expressed alarm over what it described as a dangerous increase in tensions between Israel and Iran and urged both sides to show restraint.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, speaking to Russian news agency Interfax, said the situation represents a “direct threat to peace” in the Middle East. “This sharp and unexpected increase in conflict intensity between Israel and Iran has created serious risks for regional peace,” Peskov stated, emphasizing Russia’s call for de-escalation and a return to diplomatic channels.
According to Israeli officials, the military operation targeted key Iranian sites, including nuclear facilities, ballistic missile production centers, and locations tied to Iran’s top military leadership. Israel maintains that the strikes were necessary to prevent Iran from further developing its nuclear weapons capabilities.
Moscow, however, reiterated its longstanding position that conflicts in the region should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation.
Russian officials called on both Israel and Iran to halt further military actions, open communication channels, and work with international mediators to restore calm. The Kremlin warned that continued hostilities could lead to unpredictable consequences not only for the Middle East but also for broader international security.
While the risk of further retaliation remains high, global powers including Russia are closely monitoring the situation. Analysts say that the coming days will be crucial in determining whether diplomatic efforts can ease the tensions or whether the region is headed toward a wider confrontation.
