PTI Reaches Out to PPP for Joint Strategy Against Federal Budget 2025-26

Islamabad, June 16, 2025 — In a significant political development, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for a joint opposition strategy to block the federal budget 2025-26 in Parliament.
According to a private TV report, PTI senior leader Asad Qaiser met with PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf at the Parliament House. During the meeting, Qaiser expressed PTI’s willingness to collaborate if the PPP was serious about boycotting the budget voting in both the National Assembly and the Senate.
Ashraf responded positively and assured Qaiser that he would relay the proposal to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP’s chairman, for final consultation.
This meeting comes amid heated budget discussions, where opposition criticism has intensified. The budget presented by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s government is under scrutiny, especially due to rising inflation and unpopular tax measures.
Political insiders note that the current government lacks the numbers to pass the budget without PPP’s support. Should the PPP choose to boycott the vote, the budget could fail, and Shahbaz Sharif’s majority may collapse.
Some analysts believe this political move signals more than budget pressure. Sources suggest that if PTI agrees to support Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as Prime Minister, both parties could bring a vote of no confidence against the current government — potentially forming a coalition government of their own.
