No Shutdown at Pakistan-Iran Border: Disinformation Campaign Exposed

18 June, 2025 09:50

Certain Afghan-linked and Indian social media accounts with known anti-Pakistan leanings are actively spreading baseless propaganda regarding an alleged shutdown of the Pakistan-Iran border. This coordinated campaign of misreporting appears aimed at creating confusion and undermining Pakistan’s diplomatic posture in the region.

Contrary to these false claims, the Pakistan-Iran border remains operational with routine movement continuing. The misleading narratives circulating online are part of a deliberate disinformation effort.

Due to the current security situation in Iran, there has been a noticeable drop in the movement of goods across the border. Similarly, the movement of Zairean pilgrims from Pakistan to Iran is currently not taking place. However, some Zairean pilgrims and other visitors to Iran are returning to Pakistan. There is no abnormal activity reported at the border.

Islamabad remains firmly committed to peaceful regional engagement. All decisions related to border operations and movement are made based on comprehensive security assessments—not under foreign pressure or influenced by sectarian narratives.

In light of these developments, responsible reporting and information verification are essential. Amplifying falsehoods only serves hostile agendas and risks disrupting regional stability.
