Ex-RAW Chief Calls Munir-Trump Meeting a Big Win for Pakistan

Ex-RAW Chief Calls Munir-Trump Meeting
Amarjit Singh Dulat, former head of India’s top intelligence agency RAW, has called Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s recent lunch meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump a major achievement for Pakistan.
Speaking to media at King’s College, Dulat congratulated Pakistan and said the meeting, which lasted over two hours in the White House Cabinet Room, shows growing ties between the U.S. and Pakistan.
“This has happened for the first time. It’s big for Pakistan. I congratulate the field marshal and the people of Pakistan,” Dulat said.
He added that such a meeting in Washington should now be followed by one in New Delhi: “If it can happen in Washington, why not in Delhi? Field Marshal Munir should come meet Modi Ji in Hyderabad House and also visit Amritsar.”
Dulat believes the recent lunch shows signs that hardline positions can soften, and he recalled how Indian PM Narendra Modi had visited Pakistan in 2015 to attend a family wedding of former PM Nawaz Sharif. He said that either Field Marshal Munir or Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should take the first step toward talks.
On the recent four-day conflict between India and Pakistan, Dulat said: “There is no direct evidence linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack. Militants fled and disappeared — that’s what they do. Intelligence failures happen.” He also said Prime Minister Modi’s response to the attack was partly a political necessity.
The former RAW chief strongly advocated for peace: “There should be no war between India and Pakistan. It’s dangerous.”
He praised Pakistan’s hospitality, revealing that he had visited four times after retirement and built a close friendship with former ISI chief General Asad Durrani.
U.S.-Pakistan Relations Strengthen
During the White House meeting, President Trump praised Field Marshal Munir’s leadership and Pakistan’s role in stabilizing the region. Trump was joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other top officials, while Munir was accompanied by Pakistan’s national security adviser and interior minister.
Munir thanked the U.S. president for helping to mediate a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and counter-terrorism cooperation.
