21 June, 2025 16:45

Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shah Mehmood Qureshi, has been granted bail in the May 9 Shadman arson case.

The decision was announced by Judge Manzar Ali Gul at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, where the hearing was held.

Court Hearing

The case was heard in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). On Friday, Qureshi’s lawyers Rana Mudassar Umar and Barrister Taimur Malik gave detailed arguments. The court then reserved its verdict, which was announced today.

Qureshi had applied for bail several months ago.

Other Cases Still Pending

Even though bail is granted in this case, Qureshi will not be released yet. He is still facing other cases and will remain in jail.

Recently, former Punjab Governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema was also granted bail in a similar case.

Background

The case is related to the May 9, 2023 protests after the arrest of Imran Khan. PTI workers were accused of attacking government buildings, including an incident in Shadman, Lahore.
