NADRA to add full details of men with multiple marriages in new FRC
NADRA has officially granted legal status to the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) under new reforms aimed at improving Pakistan’s identity system. These changes were made following the directions of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The updates are part of major amendments to the National Identity Card (NIC) Rules, 2002, which were originally created after NADRA was established in 2000.
The goal of these reforms is to modernise the system, reduce fraud, and enhance its security. The Federal Cabinet has now approved the changes and are in effect.
As part of the new rules, the FRC can now only be issued based on NADRA’s existing records. Applicants must also submit an undertaking confirming that all the provided information is correct.
The updated system defines three family types:
Alpha – by birth
Beta – by marriage
Gamma – by adoption
Citizens must now register any unlisted family members. If there are any mistakes, they can correct them through NADRA offices or the mobile app. Wrong entries can also be removed.
One major improvement is that the new FRC will now include complete details of men with multiple marriages, which was not clear in the old system.
Another big change is for married women. They can now choose whether to display their father’s name or their husband’s name on their national ID card, based on their personal choice.
NADRA FRC Fee:
Fee for any type of FRC: Rs 1,000
If requesting both “by birth” and “by marriage” on the same FRC: Rs 2,000
These new rules aim to make the system easier, safer, and more transparent for all citizens.
