PPP Decides to Support Budget 2025-26 After Key Demands Are Met

The Pakistan Peopleβs Party (PPP) has officially decided to support the federal budget 2025-26 after several of its concerns were addressed by the government.
The decision was taken during a PPP Parliamentary Party meeting held in Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who instructed all members to vote in favor of the Finance Bill 2025-26.
Key Changes in Budget After PPPβs Demands
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Shazia Marri confirmed that the federal government agreed to multiple revisions in the budget following PPPβs negotiations. These include:

A 20% increase in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) budget.

A 50% reduction in the proposed 18% tax on solar panels, following Bilawal Bhuttoβs strong opposition.

A 10% salary increase for government employees.

A 7% rise in pensions for retirees.

Salaries up to Rs. 100,000 per month will now be exempt from income tax.

Budget for universities in Sindh has been fully restored.

PPPβs objections over FBR law amendments have also been resolved.
Prime Minister on Agriculture Reforms
In a separate meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need for long-term reforms in the agriculture sector. He stated that agriculture is vital to Pakistanβs economy and boosting per-acre yield will help reduce production costs and improve national growth.
