Farmers advised to use easy steps to protect mango crops
The Punjab Agriculture Department has given an important warning to mango orchard owners in Faisalabad. They are being urged to remove fallen mangoes daily to stop the spread of fruit flies, which are a big threat to mango crops and Pakistan’s mango exports.
According to a spokesperson from the Agriculture Department, rotting mangoes attract fruit fly larvae. These larvae grow into adult flies and can attack healthy mangoes, causing major damage to the crop.
To prevent this, farmers are advised to:
Bury spoiled mangoes in deep pits far from the orchards
Or place them under direct sunlight on clean cemented areas to kill the eggs and larvae
The department has also asked orchard owners to check pheromone traps regularly. These traps help catch male fruit flies. For best results, methyl eugenol capsules inside the traps must be replaced on time.
By following these steps, mango growers can protect their orchards and help keep Pakistan’s mango exports safe from harmful pests.
