The weather in Karachi became pleasant on Saturday after early morning rainfall brought relief from the ongoing heatwave. Several areas of the city, including Malir, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, and nearby localities, experienced light to moderate showers.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), “intermittent showers accompanied by thunder are expected throughout the day after noon.” The maximum temperature may reach up to 31°C, with humidity levels around 90%. Winds are currently blowing from the northeast at a speed of 10 km/h.
The first monsoon spell began on Friday, marking the official start of the rainy season in Karachi and giving residents a break from the intense summer heat.
The PMD has also forecast thundershowers for other cities in Sindh, including Hyderabad, Dadu, Badin, Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Qambar Shadadkot, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
“A westerly weather system is causing thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rain in most parts of Sindh and is expected to continue until June 29,” according to PMD officials.
Clouds are also visible in southern parts of Karachi, “indicating a possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas today.” The PMD further warned that “another monsoon system is expected to impact Sindh around July 5 or 6.”
Rainfall figures show Surjani Town received the highest amount at 16mm, followed by 7.4mm in North Karachi and 6.1mm in Orangi Town since last night.
