NDMA Issues Nationwide Alert for Heavy Monsoon Rains, Flooding

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert of heavy monsoon rains and possible flooding across the country from today to July 5.
According to the NDMA, heavy rain is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Potohar, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Balakot, Murree, and Galiyat, due to which there is a risk of landslides and flooding in rivers and canals.
Urban flooding and increased water flow in the Kabul and Swat rivers are expected in the cities of Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Swat, Chitral, DI Khan, Bannu, and Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The NDMA said that from today to July 5, heavy rains are likely in the cities of Punjab—Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, and Kasur—which may cause flooding in low-lying areas.
Heavy rains are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin from July 2 to 5, and there is a risk of urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin due to heavy rains.
There is a possibility of flooding in the rivers and streams of Hazara, Malakand, Azad Kashmir, and Pir Panjal and landslides in the mountainous areas.
The National Disaster Management Authority says that there is a risk of weak structures, mud walls, electricity poles, and billboards collapsing due to heavy rains, while there is a possibility of accidents due to reduced visibility due to winds and storms.
The NDMA appealed to the public to avoid crossing rivers and streams and stay away from weak infrastructure, trees, and electricity poles, while tourists should be aware of weather conditions.
