Punjab Launches Green Credits for Plastic Bottle Recycling

Under the Chief Minister’s Green Credits Program, the Punjab government has signed an agreement with a private company to recycle single-use plastic.

A private company will install locally manufactured machines with the help of Chinese technology in four major universities in Lahore next month. Similar machines will also be installed in the city’s markets and bazaars.

This machine consists of two boxes. Press button A and insert the plastic bottle into it, then enter your phone number and press button B. Green credits will appear on the machine’s screen, which can also be viewed with the help of the app.

According to Gulfam Abid, chairman of the private company, there are 500 tons of plastic bottle waste every day. With the help of machinery, plastic bottles and single-use plastic containers will be recycled and used to make sidewalks, patchwork roads, and bricks.

He said that for putting 20 one-and-a-half-liter bottles and 40 half-liter bottles in the machine, one will get Rs. 1,000 in instant cash.

Not only ordinary citizens but also 18,000 junkyards in Lahore will be able to benefit from the green credits. They will contact them through the app, and the company employees will personally go and give them the money and collect the bottles.
