Karachi Mayor Ends Parking Fees on Main KMC Roads

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has officially announced the end of charged parking on main roads within the limits of the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality (KMC).

They say that from Tuesday, July 1, parking will be completely free on all KMC roads, and parking fees will be charged only at designated walled areas.

Speaking to a private TV channel, the Mayor of Karachi said that this decision has been made in the public interest to relieve citizens from unnecessary financial burdens.

He said that although KMC used to earn an annual income of Rs 40 to 50 million from parking fees, now the institution has become financially stable and self-sufficient, so there is no need to burden the public any further.

According to Murtaza Wahab, charged parking has been completely abolished at 46 parking sites located on 106 main roads within the limits of the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality.

He clarified that instructions have been issued to the charged parking staff, concerned deputy commissioners and traffic police not to charge parking fees on any main road of KMC.

The mayor also explained that parking fees will remain in place at certain locations such as Baradari, Dolmen Center, Safari Park, Karachi Zoo, and other parking areas within the four walls.

Murtaza Wahab warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who charges parking fees on the road within the limits of KMC.

He said that providing convenience to citizens is our top priority, and by eliminating parking fees, we are providing direct relief to the public.

The mayor further said that no decision has been taken yet regarding parking fees within the limits of Karachi’s six cantonment boards, as they do not fall under the jurisdiction of the KMC of the area.
