India Trying to Use Water as a Weapon Against Pakistan: PM

Use Water as a Weapon
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that our enemy is trying to use water as a weapon. The neighboring country just faced a reprimand in the international court. The court ruled that India could neither suspend nor terminate the 1960 treaty. Unfortunately, their intentions were nefarious and dangerous.Â
Addressing a ceremony at the National Emergency Operation Center in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that regarding the steps that India wants to take against Pakistan under this water agreement, the government of Pakistan has decided that we will use our resources to increase the water capacity in other projects, including the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, and work on projects that are non-controversial.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that many precious lives have been lost in Swat during the recent floods. Keeping politics aside, we have to examine these accidents honestly. If the NDMA has not prepared a report on this, then a report should be prepared immediately to find out the reasons for the incident.
49 people died in these incidents, and many were injured. The entire nation was in tears over the tragic incidents. To prevent such incidents, a coordinated strategy should be developed with the PDMAs and provincial governments so that such tragedies can be avoided.
The Prime Minister has said that the National Disaster Management Authority is an important multipurposenational institution. After the floods of 2022, the NDMA was modernized. The worst floods of 2022 destroyed crops standing on hundreds of acres and damaged countless houses.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that our share in greenhouse gas emissions is very small, it is necessary to build infrastructure keeping in mind climate change, and in the context of climate change, a heavy responsibility falls on the NDMA.
He said that efforts will have to be intensified to achieve the goals of social and economic development, and the capacity of the national institution to deal with natural disasters will be increased.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that in the context of climate change, coordination between the NDMA and the provinces is essential. We will have to prepare ourselves by keeping in mind the challenges of the future.
He said that, unfortunately, Pakistan is one of the countries affected by climate change, and the NDMA’s steps to acquire modern technology and provide timely information are commendable.
