In a major eco-friendly step, the Punjab government has partnered with a private company under the Chief Minister’s Green Credits Program to tackle plastic waste in Lahore. The plan involves installing smart recycling machines across the city to collect and recycle single-use plastic.
Installation of Smart Recycling Machines
These automated machines—based on Chinese technology—will be placed in four universities next month. More will be set up in popular markets and commercial areas.
How the Recycling Machines Work
Here’s how they work:
- Press Button A
- Insert plastic bottles
- Enter your mobile number
- Press Button B
Track Green Credits via Mobile App
Once done, the machine shows how many “green credits” you’ve earned. Users can also track their rewards through a dedicated mobile app.
Recycling for Construction Use
According to the company’s chairman, Gulfam Abid, Lahore produces about 500 tons of plastic bottle waste daily. The collected plastic will be recycled into tiles, bricks, and road patching materials.
Get Paid for Recycling Bottles
Users can earn Rs. 1,000 by recycling either 20 bottles (1.5L) or 40 bottles (500ml).
Involving Lahore’s Scrap Dealers
The program also includes 18,000 scrap dealers in Lahore. They can use the app to request pickup, and company staff will collect the plastic and pay on the spot.
Sustainable Step for a Cleaner City
This initiative blends environmental sustainability with financial reward, making it easier for citizens to contribute to a cleaner Lahore.
“To earn Rs. 1,000, you need to deposit either 20 bottles of 1.5 liters or 40 bottles of 500 ml into the designated recycling machines.”
