Rain emergency declared in Rawalpindi after heavy rain
Rawalpindi has declared a rain emergency after heavy monsoon rains hit the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday, flooding low-lying areas and raising water levels in several drains.
According to WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency), the water level in Nullah Lai rose to 15 feet at Katarian and 14 feet at Gawalmandi, causing serious concerns. 41 millimeters of rain was recorded in total across the twin cities.
Several areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad saw high rainfall:
Saidpur: 30mm
Golra: 38mm
Bokra: 25mm
PMD: 78mm
Shamsabad & Kutchehry: 68mm
Pir Wadhai: 54mm
Rainwater flooded many roads, and power supply was suspended in some areas of Rawalpindi due to the downpour. Authorities have been working to drain water from roads.
Other areas affected:
Heavy rains were also reported in Bagh and other parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), as well as Narowal and other regions of Punjab. In Narowal, 1 to 2 feet of water accumulated on Kutchehry Road, Karbala Road, and Zafarwal Road, creating problems for residents.
More rain expected:
The Met Office has forecast more rain with strong winds in Islamabad, Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir in the next 24 hours. It warned of very heavy rainfall in some places, while other parts of the country may experience hot and humid weather.
Residents are advised to stay alert and avoid waterlogged areas.
