ECP Restores Reserved Seats After Supreme Court Verdict

ECP Restores Reserved Seats
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored several reserved seats in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies following a Supreme Court decision. In the National Assembly, five women’s reserved seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been restored. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) received two seats each, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) secured one.
From Punjab, eleven women’s reserved seats have been restored in the National Assembly. Out of these, ten were allocated to PML-N and one to the PPP. Additionally, three minority seats in the National Assembly have also been restored, going one each to PML-N, PPP, and JUI-F.
In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 21 women’s reserved seats were restored. JUI-F received 8, PML-N got 6, PPP secured 5, and one seat each was given to Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians and the Awami National Party (ANP). Four minority seats were also restored in the same assembly, of which two were given to JUI-F, and one each to PML-N and PPP.
In the Punjab Assembly, 24 women’s reserved seats have been restored. PML-N received 21, while PPP, Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP), and PML-Q were given one seat each. Three minority seats were also restored in Punjab, with PML-N getting two and PPP receiving one.
In Sindh, two women’s reserved seats have been restored—one each to PPP and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The ECP has also withdrawn its earlier notification that had declared successful candidates on general seats as members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This decision affects general seat winners in the National Assembly as well as in the Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh Assemblies.
