The Government of Sindh has announced public holidays on July 5 (Saturday) and July 6 (Sunday), 2025, in observance of Ashura, corresponding to the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 A.H.
An official notification issued by the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department on July 1 states that these holidays will apply to all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, corporations, and local councils under Sindh’s administrative control. However, essential services will continue to operate during this period.
The announcement was made by Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, and the notification has been distributed to all concerned departments for enforcement.
Ashura holds religious importance for Muslims as it commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Battle of Karbala.
Authorities have announced strict security measures and anticipate processions throughout Sindh on these days. The public is urged to observe Ashura with reverence and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and order.
