Disqualification Reference Filed Against Opposition Members

Disqualification Reference Against Opposition
A disqualification reference was filed with the Election Commission against 26 members of the Punjab Assembly from the opposition party Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan reached the Election Commission, where he filed disqualification references against 26 opposition members.
It should be noted that 26 opposition members were suspended for creating a ruckus during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s ceremony in the Punjab Assembly.
On June 28, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan announced that he would send a reference to the Election Commission against the suspended members.
Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan had said in a press conference that he would send a reference against the suspended PTI members to the Election Commission. If the opposition members do not listen to their leader, the constitution gives me the right to send a reference. The decision of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial in this regard is very clear.
The Speaker had said that he has always advocated adherence to the constitution and believes in upholding democratic and parliamentary traditions, but the behavior of opposition members in the House is regrettable. A total of 37 election petitions were filed on the seats. In 2014, PTI also tried to paralyze the system by alleging rigging.
He said that it is important for everyone to take care of the sanctity of the House, while it is my responsibility to run the Assembly according to the rules and regulations. Despite the ruling, the opposition members’ rioting is a violation.
The ruling party has the upper hand in the Assembly. They will not allow the system to be held hostage. They have given maximum time to the opposition members in the House.
