Kundi Says PTI Can Be Ousted If Opposition Gets Majority

03 July, 2025 19:07

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has warned that a no-confidence motion could be brought against Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur if the opposition gains a majority in the provincial assembly.

Following the Supreme Court’s directives, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reinstated reserved seats previously given to the PML-N, PPP, JUI-F, and ANP, reducing PTI’s hold on the assembly. This shift has raised the opposition’s strength from 27 to over 50 members, while 93 PTI-backed independents still hold seats.

The KP Assembly saw 21 women’s reserved seats restored — 8 to JUI-F, 6 to PML-N, 5 to PPP, and 1 each to ANP and PTI-P. Four minority seats were also reallocated — 2 to JUI-F and 1 each to PPP and PML-N.

Kundi, speaking to media, said a no-confidence move is a democratic right if the opposition secures even one more member than PTI. He denied any current plans but claimed PTI workers would soon celebrate “Thanksgiving Day.”

Despite frequent clashes with CM Gandapur, Kundi said he doesn’t wish him to become “jobless.” Meanwhile, Gandapur firmly stated his government can only be dissolved by PTI founder’s order, challenging opponents to try constitutional means to oust him.

JUI-F, although strengthened in the assembly, clarified it will not support any move to remove the current government.
