In preparation for Ashura, authorities in Peshawar have announced the suspension of mobile phone services on the 9th and 10th of Muharram to ensure public safety and maintain order.
Service Suspension to Begin on 8th Muharram
According to a police spokesperson, “the mobile phone service will be suspended starting Friday, 8th Muharram, shortly after Jumma (Friday) prayers.” Services are expected to be restored by “late Sunday night after 10 PM, following the conclusion of Ashura activities.”
Security Measures Enhanced
The mobile service suspension is part of a broader security plan to prevent any untoward incidents during Ashura processions. Authorities believe this move will help with surveillance, especially in sensitive areas, and aid in maintaining peace during the religious events.
High-Tech Monitoring to Be Used
To further ensure safety, law enforcement will deploy advanced tools such as drone cameras, CCTV systems, and other surveillance technology to monitor processions throughout the city.
Ashura Observances Across Pakistan
Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, is one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar. It is marked by religious gatherings and processions across the country, including major cities like Peshawar.
