CTD, Punjab police kill 6 terrorists in joint raids

BAHAWALPUR: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Punjab Police carried out joint operations on Saturday in Taunsa and Bahawalpur, killing six Indian-backed terrorists.

In Taunsa Sharif, five militants were shot dead during a raid near the Jaday Wali area under Vahowa Police Station. The operation was launched after intelligence reports revealed that militants were planning attacks. Eight other terrorists were seriously injured in the gunfight.

Dera Ghazi Khan’s District Police Officer (DPO), Syed Ali, visited the site to monitor security and oversee a clearance operation to ensure no suspects remained in the area.

In Bahawalpur, a separate raid led to the death of another terrorist, while three of his accomplices escaped. Authorities are actively searching for them.

A CTD spokesperson said the team’s swift action prevented a major terror attack. Security forces also recovered a large cache of bullets and hand grenades from the slain terrorists. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

Earlier, at least three wanted militants linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed during a late-night operation in Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) said on Saturday.

The operation took place in Sarai Naurang, near Bhutani Canal, around 1 AM. These militants were wanted for several attacks on police and other law enforcement agencies.

After the operation, security forces recovered four hand grenades, Kalashnikov rifles, ammunition, and two mobile phones from the scene.
